You're trained to function under pressure. The job places unique demands on the body: long shifts, heavy lifting, disrupted sleep, handling physically and emotionally demanding situations. It's part of the job and in the short term the body adapts to cope. Over time, however, these coping strategies can contribute to patterns of tension, discomfort, fatigue and poor recovery.
The signs include:
Persistent pain, stiffness or reduced mobility
Feeling unable to switch off
Digestive problems
Poor sleep/ waking up tired
Increased tension or irritability

Most people seek support only when the symptoms become unbearable and interfere with their life. By that point, the body may have been compensating for months or even years. Recognising and responding to the early signs of strain can help prevent more serious problems later.
We aim to identify what's contributing to pain, tension, fatigue and poor recovery - and help the body let go of patterns it's been holding onto.
The work is different from massage, physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment. The focus is on physical adjustment but it acknowledges that the mind can affect how the body functions.
Sessions use functional muscle testing to assess the problem, and specialised techniques to relieve pressure and restore balance.
Where relevant, we explore habitual patterns that may be impacting the body and work to bring the mind and body into harmony.
You remain fully clothed. You may lie on the treatment couch, or we can work seated or standing.
I test your muscle function to gather information about how your body is functioning and where support is needed.
Much of the treatment is active rather than passive, but most people feel a sense of calm and relaxation.
Immediate change is usually visible in the session.
The focus is always practical: to reduce strain, improve function, support recovery and to build resilience for coping with ongoing demands.
Emergency service workers spend their careers looking after other people.
Looking after yourself matters too. Not just when things reach crisis point, or when you're injured, but as part of maintaining your health and ensuring you can enjoy life when you're not at work.
Recovery shouldn't be a luxury. It's a vital part of remaining fit for service - and life - for the long term.
People's experiences vary, but clients commonly report:
Reduced tensions and discomfort
Improved mobility
Better sleep
Easier recovery between shifts
Increased energy
Feeling calmer and less reactive
Greater awareness of when stress is affecting them
Improved ability to take care of themselves in difficult situations

My previous life
I was a teacher for 20 years, and a houseparent in two boarding schools. Being on call overnight for 100 students meant disrupted sleep and constant demands. I was on my feet all day, teaching and dealing with the needs of the boarders. Then I’d spend hours at my desk dealing with paperwork and marking. My back frequently complained.
Since then, I've worked with many people whose jobs are physically and emotionally relentless. I see, again and again, how their bodies hold the patterns that repeated strain leaves behind.
Alongside Chiropractic, Physio and Massage
I’ve had all three and often enjoy a massage for relaxation. My focus is a bit different, but complementary – and it can support other treatment you may be having.
Some people report reacting badly to the “cracks” of treatments that involve manual manipulation. For them, this approach can be a welcome alternative.
Whilst making adjustments that feel immediately soothing and relaxing, I identify the underlying patterns your body is holding onto. I help your nervous system properly stand down, so your body recovers, rather than just coping.
Learning how to help yourself
Your body is always communicating with you - through tension, fatigue, pain and more. I help you understand what yours is telling you, in the context of your job, so you can take a more active role in looking after it.
Our work together is collaborative, never forceful, built around what you notice and feel
I first qualified in Touch for Health Kinesiology in 2012 and was awarded Proficiency in 2014. There are many varieties of kinesiology, but they all involve testing muscles to obtain feedback from the body about where it is holding stress.
I am fully DBS checked and a member of the FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists).
In 2025 I completed Professional Coaching Training with Coaching Development. Coaching recognises that people often have a sense of what is right for them, but feel overwhelmed or unsure how to move forward.
Alongside the body-based work, coaching can help you identify what's blocking your progress and take steps that feel realistic and aligned with who you are.
I am trained in Energetic Cellular Healing (2015-16 with Tjitze de Jong). This work acknowledges that we can unconsciously carry the effects of past experiences and emotions.
Gently working with these deeper patterns can help the body let go of what it no longer needs to hold, allowing a greater sense of ease and balance to emerge.
I began life as a teacher of English in secondary schools, and ran two boarding houses. Very early, I became curious about the different ways people learn, and the impact external factors such as emotional wellbeing have on learning. This continues to shape my understanding of how people develop, adapt and change.
I regularly undertake accredited training (including with NICABM) and undertake my own research into trauma, anxiety and nervous system regulation. I attend regular supervision and participate in peer support activities that promote shared learning.
I am currently completing training in coaching neurodiverse clients and working towards accreditation with the ICF.
I have a lifelong interest in adapting support to embrace different ways of thinking, processing and relating. Currently I am completing Neurodiversity Coach Certification.
I also bring lived experience of neurodiversity and hyper-sensitivity within my own family.
"I had been feeling low in energy, mood and motivation. Hilary effortlessly creates a welcoming and calming atmosphere. I felt completely at ease discussing my personal concerns.
Hilary explained what she was doing and why throughout the session. It's all so fascinating and there were quite a few 'aha' moments."
Julie, Nurse
"From my sessions I have taken away that I need to be kind to myself and allow myself all the time I need to heal as I have been through quite a lot of stress in the last year. I can trust that my body knows best and listen to the signals it gives me."
Wilma, Recruitment Professional
"I’ve been dealing with long-standing exhaustion. Like many carers, I’d ended up at the bottom of my own priority list. My session with Hilary was genuinely restorative — I dropped into a level of deep rest that’s very unusual for me.
Highly recommend if you’re feeling worn out and need to reset.
Lauren, Specialist Education Practitioner
"I was sceptical at first, having in the past sought help from various coaches and counsellors. However, the first session proved so powerful that I decided to book several more. After working with Hilary I feel refreshed and ready to face new challenges rather than procrastinating and hoping for the best."
Florence, Teacher
